Dear Library Friend:
In times of need, people turn to their library. We know this because we can see it in our numbers: library usage has surged since this time last year and that surge continues.
This isn't surprising when you consider the resources available free of charge at the library. Think of what the library's 28 public-access computers mean to the thousands of people in our community who cannot afford to own a computer of their own. The world has changed. Many companies nowadays will only accept applications online. Without the library's computers, some people in our community would be completely out of luck.
Many people do not really know the first thing about performing a job search, writing a résumé, or being interviewed for a job. Small wonder the library's books on these subjects have become so popular.
Then there are the young mothers who depend upon our juvenile section and Miss Rosemary to provide their children with free story hours and other programs, confident that their kids are in a safe and creative haven.
The Talbot Library, like many places, has had to tighten its belt. Our overall budget decreased by more than 5% this year. We need to keep providing the services the community needs. We need your help.
So please, now, before all the holiday madness begins, take this moment to consider the things that really makes a difference to our sense of community and quality of life here in Talbot County. I can think of no better way than supporting our local library. I intend to make a generous donation this year to the library. I hope you will too.
Sincerely,
Mary Frances Packard
