Great Books Reading & Discussion Program

The Great Books Reading and Discussion Program is based on the idea that by reading from the great books of our civilization and discussing them with other people - sharing your insights and questions - you can reach a fuller understanding of these works than you could on your own.

The only requirements for joining a Great Books discussion group are curiosity and a willingness to work with others toward an understanding and appreciation of the readings. The leaders are equal members of the group with no claims to superior knowledge; their special function is to ask the questions that sustain discussion and help keep discussion focused. As your group compares ideas about a reading and explores unanswered questions together, you will arrive at your own interpretations of the work.

The cost to purchase a Great Book series is approximately $30. Each multivolume series includes 15 reading selections and a Reader's Aid with interpretive questions for each selection.

The current two sessions of Great Books are held in the Conference Room at the Talbot County Library in Easton on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. The first session meets from 9:30 - 11:00 am.
