Our Library

"A good book is the best of friends"

The Talbot County Free Library has almost 100,000 such "friends" on its shelves, and in our catalog. Our library's 18,000 card holders confirm that the library is serving the cultural and educational needs of our citizenry. Over 190,000 books, magazines, audio and video cassettes, maps, pamphlets and other materials were circulated this past year.

Our library is funded 75% by the County, 18% by the state and to a lesser degree by fines and fees. These monies are use primarily for staff salaries, acquisitions, supplies and routine maintenance. These funds, however, do not cover a number of significant extras, desirable, if not necessary, to bring our Library to a state of excellence.

Friends of the Library

Recognition that the library needs additional help led to the establishment of the Friends of the Library in 1974. This group of more than 450 individuals and households has been responsible for upgrading our library in many ways. Think how much more we could be if you too become a friend!
