Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Connecting the eastern and western shores of Maryland, the first bridge across the Bay was completed in 1952. The parallel span, opened in 1973, eliminated a traffic bottleneck by permitting a one-way operation on each bridge. Over-water length - 5 miles / suspension span length - 2,922 ft. Height of roadway - 200 ft.
